7:50 - Sustainability
- Speaking around the circle...
Importance of responding to climate change. What does it mean at the neighborhood level? Offer - facilitation and coordination. It's about relationships. NLC Sustainability Committee. Resources web site, for example Amazon Neighbors web site. Offer - web site, survey, talking with neighbors. Have workshops, tour neighborhood. We have to start being a political force, by getting more people interested. More outreach, more education. Offer - experienced Winter gardener and seed saver - but doesn't want info on a web site. Learning about how to weatherize my house with substandard insulation. Survey weatherization status of houses in Eugene - in our neighborhood. Need help on how to address weatherization challenge - will share answers. Wish there was one good resource for dealing with home energy issues. (Lisa will take a look.) Disappointment with EWEB energy audit a couple of years ago. Neighborhood shopping, car-pooling, trip-chaining. More local services. Temporary community gardens (as in Europe). Increase blueberries, reduce invasive blackberries. Switch to hybrid or electric little pickup. Need to focus on practicalities, not just experimentalities. Would like to join a particpatory CSA. (There's a Saturday 9-2 micro farmer's market behind Hideaway! ) Networking with immediate neighbors for more robust collective gardening. Motorcycle alternative to work truck. Super-insulated home addition. Less lawns. low VOC paints. neighbor awareness of low chemical use. Neighbor to neighbor pesticide drift. Yard grows into habitat - how to recover and nourish local biodiversity? nature space creates community, creates conversations. Concerned about toxics. Concerned about wood stove smoke. Offer - networking and education. Have tree fruit - want tomatoes. Solar food dryer? CSA support and participation - Groundworks, food to Food for Lane County. Wish the national conversation would be post-growth. Isn't there a sliver-lining to the downturn, slowing the crazy growth? Speed bump bicycle delivery. Make garden more native. Got rid of the lawn, growing more food. Too much food in the summer, would love to share. Going more native, seeing more wildlife, enjoying birds. Neighborhood gardening coordination. Water catchment. Being careful about impacts on natural water systems. Leaving the car sitting.
- Brainstorming...
